The ‘Leave Everywhere‘ 7″ is due out on Carpark on 19th July 2010 (EU) 20th July (USA)

Ditching the “bedroom, iMac, MIDI controller, Reason” vibe and embracing Phil Spector tape saturation and echo chamber vibe. Even though I’m not a huge fan of Mark Ronson for obvious reasons [watch this], he did record some nice “vintage sounding” stuff (or should I say The Dap Kings did) following suit¬†Chaz has nailed that sound on this new track.

Toro y Moi – Leave Everywhere

So here’s the news. Toro‘s album “Causers of This” is being released on 02.02.2010.

Car Park have already announced he will have another record finished and released by August 2010. Dope.

I love his stuff and already can’t wait to see what progressions he will make for the August release. I hope he releases some of his Les Sins tracks this year, they have a similar vocal pattern to the Toro Y Moi vocals and their is a definite vibe they both share. It is like a 128 bpm, French House, Dance Floor version of Toro.

Les Sins – Lina

Here’s a cool short film Chaz Bundick did the music for.

It has that Life Aquatic Mark Mothersbaugh vibe to the music.

New full length from Toro Y Moi coming!!! Going to be so good. Get ready for a new installment of future nostalgia inducing awesomeness from the creator of some of the best music I’ve been listening to this year.¬† Check the tracklist below.

Toro Y MoiToro Y Moi, (Chaz Bundick), is 23 years old and from Columbia, South Carolina. I got hold of him through his myspace asking for some tunes after hearing Blessa and Talamak in a post on Gorilla VS Bear. Soon after we were all listening to his tunes in the house, in the car and on holiday. Since then the hazy, genre-fusionerized sound of Toro Y Moi, has been quickly signed to Carpark Records with a release later this year and two more releases coming in 2010.

With his upcoming releases, his tour dates and just because we’re enjoying his sound so much, we sorted out an interview with Chaz to let you know a bit more about him.

UWT – So what goes on in a typical day of Toro Y Moi?

Toro Y Moi – Now that i’m done with school and i am pretty much without a day job. i do music and design stuff all day. and in between i’m constantly emailing and networking…and surfing the internet.

UWT – What got you in to music?

Toro Y Moi – My parents vinyl and tape collection was a huuuge influence on the kind of music. my dad got me into sonic youth, suicidal tendencies, Elvis Costello, and many more. my mom made me take piano lessons and i hated but, now im thankful that she did that.

UWT – What are you listening to at the moment?

Toro Y Moi – Right now im listening to a lot of late 70s to mid 80s new wave stuff that i’ve dug up from the internet.

UWT – How do you go about writing songs? What sort of set up do you have for recording/producing?

Toro Y Moi – I usually start with the music then lyrics come afterwords, then i do the music to fit the lyrics. I use a lot of different processes. Sometimes i’ll go completely analog and just use nothing more than 8 tracks or i’ll use my computer for sampling and my electronic stuff. I have a small little home studio, nothing jaw dropping haha.

UWT – I see you’ve got some releases coming out on Carpark Records which is awesome. What have you got planned for those releases?

Toro Y Moi – For one of the albums its going to be a somewhat poppy, dreamy, more produced sounding. and the other will be more organic and analog and still have alot of different genres and influences standing out.

UWT – You have quite a variation with what genres of music you create. What sort of music gets you inspired to write some new stuff?

Toro Y Moi – I just got really tired of writting songs that sounded like “toro y moi”, i found myself getting stuck in the songwritting process so i just decided to create songs that sometimes “nod” to a specific genre but, try to make my sound as different as possible.

UWT – You’ve got quite a tour coming up. (Unfortunately no shows in the UK.) How do you perform live?

Toro Y Moi – For this tour, its going to be to build up for the first album (dreamy pop one). i’m going to use my computer to play the songs and create transitions and while playing live synth and vocal fx’s. maybe soon, it’ll be full band.

UWT – So for one day, you could be anything in the world… what would it be and why?

Toro Y Moi – Hmm, probably a dog or a shark. sharks are the only thing that scare me when i go to the beach and dogs are the world’s greatest animal, but if i was a dog i would want the ability to laugh like a human.
